Early Life

Norman Hansen was born in Seattle, Washington, the U.S on April 24, 1967.  He is the elder brother of deck boss, Edgar and younger brother of Captain Sig Hansen. When he was 15-years-old, he began fishing along with his brothers. He grew up working on salmon gillnetters and opilio crab boats in Alaska during the summers in Bristol Bay.

After completing high school at 18, he began fishing and became a full-time fisherman for several years. Though crab fishing skills run through his veins, he wanted to explore something different. So, at the age of 22, he joined college to study automotive engineering. After graduation, he worked as an automotive mechanic for a few years. Later, when he turned 35, he decided to join his brothers for the fishing adventure on F/V Northwestern.

The F/V Northwestern was built by Norman Hansen’s father, Sverre Hansen, when his first boat sank in 1977. After a decade it was helmed by his 22-year-old son, Sig Hansen. Since then, Sig has been the owner and the captain of the boat.
