Mark Harmon was born as Thomas Mark Harmon on September 2, 1951, in Burbank, California to Tom Harmon, a football player, and Elyse Knox, an actress. He has two sisters, actress-model Kelly Harmon and actress turned painter Kristin Harmon.
He graduated his high school from Harvard School. Further, he enrolled at Pierce College, where he completed a two-year associate degree. He later went to the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he started playing quarterback for UCLA Bruins Football team in 1972 and 1973.
