Professionally known as Halsey, Ashley Nicolette Frangipane is an American singer and songwriter. The winner of Billboard Women in Music Rising Star Award and iHeartRadio Music Award, Halsey has a studio album, an EP and eight singles under her name till date.
Halsey was born to Nicole and Chris Frangipane, on 29 September 1994 in Washington, New Jersey. She is of Irish, Hungarian, and African-American descent.
As a teenager, she has faced several problems, one of which is her battle with bipolar disorder. Besides, she also encountered financial issues, to overcome which she started performing in different cities.
She played violin, viola, and cello, eventually moving to acoustic guitar at the age of 14. Unable to afford a college of fine arts, she joined community college as a major in creative writing.

Halsey entered into the music world under her real name as a cover artist. Astralwerks Records signed her after her song Ghost gained attention.
Her debut EP, Room 93, was released on October 27, 2014, comprising of five songs out of which four had a music video.
She performed with bands The Kooks and Imagine Dragons during their tours before releasing her debut studio album, Badlands, on August 28, 2015. Eleven songs including previously released Ghost amount to the total length of forty minutes of the album.
She released Tokyo Narita (Freestyle) in May 2016 and got featured in Closer by The Chainsmokers in July 2016, the later peaking at number one on Billboard Hot 100.
Sharing her latest single Now or Never via Twitter on April 4, 2017, Halsey has announced that her new album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom, would be dropped on June 2 this year.
