Hailee Steinfeld (born December 11, 1996) is an American actress, singer, and model, known mostly for her splendid performance in True Grit as Mattie Ross. She is also noted for her roles in other movies like Ender’s Game, 3 Days to Kill, Pitch Perfect 2 and has released some hit songs like Most Girls and Starving.

Hailee Steinfeld was born in L.A. to Peter Steinfeld and Cheri Steinfeld (née Domasin). Her father is a fitness trainer and her mother is an interior designer. She has an older brother named Griffin Steinfeld, who is an off-road race driver.

She was raised in Thousand Oaks, C.A. where she attended Conejo Elementary and Ascension Lutheran School. She was home-schooled from 2008 to 2015. She recalls being inspired by her maternal first cousin, actress True O’Brien when she was 8 years old.

Hailee Steinfeld’s career started when she was very young. During that time, she co-starred in many short movies, trying to build her way up to the big screen.

She played the role of Talia Alden in the award-winning short film She’s a Fox in 2009, a year after which, she was selected for the role of Mattie Ross in True Grit. She was thirteen at that time. Her performance was well received by critics, and Richard Corliss of Time Magazine even called her performance one of the Top 10 Movie Performances of 2010.

In 2014, Hailee was busy performing the adaptation movie of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The movie received poor reviews in the United States but it didn’t affect her career as she was also selected for the movie Begin Again which was a hit among the viewers. In 2016, she starred in The Edge of Seventeen, and most recently, she reprised her role in Pitch Perfect 3.

Hailee Steinfeld is also a talented musician, who made her singing debut from Pitch Perfect 2 (2015). She was offered a deal with Republic Records and she released her debut single Love Myself, the same year. The single was a success and it was labeled Platinum in many countries.

She also starred in the music video of Bad Blood, a hit single by Taylor Swift in 2015. The video premiered on 17 May at the Billboard Music Awards that year. She has also collaborated with  Shawn Mendes for the acoustic version of Stitches in 2015 and with DNCE for Rock Bottom in 2016.
