Samira Wiley is an American actress popular as Poussey Washington in the Netflix comedy series Orange is the New Black.
Wiley was born as Samira Denise Wiley on April 15, 1987, to Christine and Dennis W. Wiley. She was raised in Washington D.C. with her two siblings. In 2010, she graduated from the Julliard School, where she studied drama.
Wiley made her television debut in 2011 when she appeared in the CBS crime drama series Unforgettable. The same year, she also made her film debut in the Jonah Hill starrer The Sitter. She began portraying Poussey Washington in the Netflix original series, Orange is the New Black, in 2013. She starred in all twelve episodes of the show’s first season. Her character was promoted to series regular for the third installment.
Wiley and the cast of Orange is the New Black received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2016.
In 2015, she appeared as a guest on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. She portrayed Justina Jordan in the FXX comedy series, You’re the Worst, in 2016. That year, she also appeared as Hacker Kween in the Henry Joost directed techno thriller adventure movie, Nerve.
Wiley is married to Orange is the New Black writer Lauren Morelli. They tied the knot on March 25, 2017.
