BBC’s You, Me and Big C Host Rachael Bland Living Last Days of Her Life for Son
You, Me and the Big C co-host, Rachael Bland has shared that she has only “days to live.” Diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2016, Bland took to social media to share the heartbreaking news with her well-wishers.
Aggressive Cancer!
Rachael mentioned that Deborah James and Lauren Mahon would continue to present the podcast, writing,
In the words of the legendary Frank S – I’m afraid the time has come my friends. And suddenly. I’m told I’ve only got days. It’s very surreal. Thank you so much for all the support I’ve received. Debs and lozz will continue with the #youmebigc podcast. Au revoir my friends.
She started sharing her experiences on ‘Big C, Little Me,’ a few weeks after her initial diagnosis, “as a way to update people” on her treatment and encourage other patients. She convinced BBC bosses with the idea of turning her blogging into podcast earlier this year. A month after the idea evolved, she started co-hosting You, Me and the Big C along with James and Mahon, whose cancers have gone into remission.
While the show was gaining popularity, there was worse news for Bland, as she was told that her cancer had turned terminal in May. Two months later, she was informed that even after Lumpectomy and full mastectomy her cancer has metastasized spreading from primary to other parts. After that, she started thinking of giving life to the “vague idea” of leaving behind a gift for her son, Freddie.
BBC North West Tonight presenter is now in a race against time to release a memoir for Freddie, who is turning 3 this month. As she said, “At the end, it always feels better to laugh than to cry,” she is now determined to make everyday count, with her loved ones, Freddie and her husband, Steve.
Her fans, and colleagues including, Richard Bacon, Tony Livesey, Chris Warburton and Victoria Derbyshire have taken to social media to share their warm words for Bland. Our heart and prayers are with you and your family Rachel. May god bless you!
