Born on April 22, 1950, he grew up in Bromley and attended Bromley Technical School in London with David Bowie. After finding his grandmother’s banjolele in the attic, he taught himself and discovered his love for music. He played in a number of bands in his early teens, including Little Ravens, the Trubeats and the Preachers. By the late 60s, he dropped out of high school and joined a mod-pop group, The Herd, where he first got the real taste of rock music. The band rose from local fame in no time and scored several English hits during its time. Frampton got recognized for his amazing vocal and his youthful glam made him a teen idol, earning the “Face of 1968” title of a teen magazine, Rave. Frampton departed from The Herd in 1969 to form Humble Pie with Steve Marriott, Greg Ridley and Jerry Shirley. Despite earning a huge fan base, he left the band after four studio albums and touring for two years in 1971, and went solo.

He released his first solo album, Wind of Change in 1972, which failed to make a big impact, despite help from guest artist/rockers like Ringo Starr and Billy Preston. His debut album was followed by Frampton’s Camel (1973) and Something’s Happening (1974). He toured straight for three years with ex-mates Andy Bown, Rick Wills and John Siomos to promote his solo career. By the time he released his fourth album, Frampton in 1974, he had already become a household name. The album made it to No.32 in the US charts and was certified Gold by the RIAA. The success was followed by the live album, Frampton Comes Alive!, which became his best selling live album with hit singles like Baby, I Love Your Way and Show Me the Way.

Till date, the 68 years old artist has released 15 studio albums and 3 live albums. He also appeared various movies, including Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and appeared as himself in The Simpsons and The Family Guy. Earlier this year he was on a tour with rock powerhouse Steve Miller. On November 20, it was announced that Frampton is set to appear in Imagine: John Lennon 75th Birthday Concert, which will be released in 2019. The legendary artist will be honored with the Les Paul Innovation Award at the 34th NAMM Tec Awards on January 26, 2019. He took to Twitter to share his happiness.
