Laurie Elizabeth Metcalf was born on 16th June 1955 in Carbondale, Illinois, U.S. Brought up in Edwardsville, Illinois, she was away from any theater in her childhood days. Illinois State University graduate, Laurie originally majored in German thinking to land the job of interpreter & then chose Anthropology as major but finally, realizing her true passion in theater, she gained her Bachelors of Arts in Theatre degree.

She was hideously shy until she auditioned for several high school plays. Establishment of Steppenwolf theater Company as a joint venture with her high school friends and fellow students at Illinois State University made a commencement of her career in show business.

Her very first professional acting role in Balm in Gilead earned her an Obie Award and also Theatre World Award. Showered with praise for her appearance in the Steppenwolf production, Laurie headed to Manhattan and began forwarding her career in both theater and films.

Finally becoming familiar on both the small and big screen, she earned wide applause for her roles on successful TV productions like Roseanne, Big Bang Theory and Desperate Housewives and highly successful movies like Toy Story film series, Scream 2, Making Mr. Right, Mistress, and JFK. Family and Personal Life

Laurie is the eldest of three children including her younger siblings: James (brother) and Linda (sister) to her father James (budget director at Southern Illinois University) and mother Libby (librarian).

Twice married woman’s first husband was Jeff Perry, who was a co-founding member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. They married in 1984 and that same year welcomed a daughter, Zoe. Finally, 8 years of marriage ended in 1992.

Afterward, being smitten by each other she and her Roseanne co-star Matt Roth hooked up and finally married after the birth of a son Will in 1993. In 2005, a baby girl Mae Akins was born via surrogacy and they also adopted a 6-years-old boy Donovan in 2006. However, their marital bliss ended when Roth filed a divorce in 2011 after about 3 years of separation.

As of now, the Hollywood veteran running in 61-years of age is single after her second divorce was finalized in 2014. She stands with a height of 5 feet and 7 inches.
