Jack Thornton (Daniel Lissing), the lead character of the fan-favorite drama show, When Calls the Heart, has been killed off.

His death had been left as a cliffhanger in episode 9 of the season 5, but the finale made it sure that Jack won’t return.

It had just been weeks after Jack married a local school teacher, Elizabeth Thatcher (Erin Krakow), after five seasons of blossoming romance.

The finale was the most emotional among all as heartbroken Elizabeth learns that Jack died while saving two of his men.

Fans everywhere are sad after seeing their favorite character gone. Twitter is filled with the heartaches of fans.

However, it was not all sad. There is going to be a new Thornton in the Hope Valley.

In the finale, Abigail Stanton (Lori Loughlin) helps Elizabeth realize that she is pregnant with Jack’s baby.

Lissing had left a teaser earlier in an exclusive interview with ET. He said, “what I would like to see is a happy family. Elizabeth's beaming smile, with a baby, in Hope Valley.”

Daniel, Erin and Lori even watched the series finale together.

The show’s leads have also been confronting sad and angry fans on Twitter.

With yet another cliffhanger, season six will see a new direction for Elizabeth and the Hope Valley.

With the end of his stint in ‘When Calls the Heart,’ Daniel Lissing is set to explore new waters in the near future.

In an interview with Parade, he said that he is planning to work on a full feature film based on his short film, Answers, from 2016.

He also stated that he had proposed Hallmark for a different project featuring him and Erin.

So, will fans get to see their favorite couple in a different project? That is something only time will reveal.
