Amy has always been an immense cardio freak and conscious about fitness. She started powerlifting in 2002, and eventually met her husband, Ron Shirley, who also happened to be a powerlifter. After a couple of months of intense training, Ron encouraged Amy to participate in a push/pull meet scheduled to happen in South Carolina. After participating in her first show, she developed an obsession with the sport. Later, Amy went on to compete in other local contests and bagged two Junior World Records.

Apparently, the show became a reality after a film crew came to scout some exciting prospect in the area in 2008. The crew met Amy and her husband and immediately realized they had the dynamics to make the show happen. The show officially aired on TruTV on February 7, 2011, as Lizard Lick Towing. The show followed the activities of the owners and the employees of the company as they strived to repossess things that have payments overdue all over North Carolina.

Although, the show was receiving excellent feedback from the viewers, it short-lived for only 3 years and ended on August 18, 2014. However, the last season received a lot of criticisms for adding unnecessary dramas. In one of the episodes, Amy was seen entering a boxing ring for an MMA style showdown against a displeased woman. But, the woman was arrested before the fight began, which led many of the viewers to accuse the show of being staged, and point out other instances of scripted drama.
