The U.S. version of the ‘The Office’ became an instant hit after its release on March 24, 2005, as the original show in the UK had already paved the way for its success. Until its end on May 16, 2013, the Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch, had a lot to offer. Among the branch’s employees was Toby Flenderson, played by Paul Lieberstein. For years, we watched Toby get humiliated by the Scranton boss, Michael Scott, but in real life, the actor is nowhere similar to the character he portrayed. Let us get into the life of the multi-talented actor, Paul Lieberstein, and his whereabouts.

Actor by Chance:

There’s a reason why you don’t see Paul on TV much, he never intended to be. He had produced and written for the shows like The Drew Carey Show and The Bernie Mac Show and had joined The Office as a writer. His character, Toby, was supposed to appear on the show for just an episode but he ended up as a supporting cast member for the rest of the show.

In an interview with Deadline, he told, “As a writer I’ve never felt so creatively fulfilled, I really feel like I’m writing exactly what I’ve wanted to write in terms of exploring everyday life…And it made me an actor, which I never suspected I’d do.”

The Farm

If all had gone according to plan, we could have seen Dwight Schrute and a plethora of main characters from The Office in its spin-off series, The Farm. Paul and Rainn Wilson would have been the co-producers of the show, which was supposed to focus on Dwight’s life on his family farm. Its 60-minute pilot was broken down and made into an episode of the final season of The Office.

There have been no explanations as to why the spin-off did not make it on its own. Maybe NBC did not want another ‘Joey.’

Family In the Office:

You can’t bring your work to home, but apparently, you can bring your home to work. Paul had not one, not two but three family members working together on the set of The Office. The show’s creator Greg Daniels is his brother-in-law and his little brother, Warren, was a writer and producer of the show. To add to this, Angela Kinsey, who played Angela Martin, was married to Warren for four years.

Post-Office Work:

After leaving The Office, Paul has been keeping himself busy with many other projects. He executive produced and appeared in two episodes of The Newsroom’s final season. He also acted in many more shows like The Mindy Project, Bad Teacher, Togetherness and People of Earth.

In 2017, he replaced Kevin Etten as the showrunner of the show, Ghosted, starring Adam Scott and Craig Robinson. What kept him busy in the recent times is his movie, Song of Back and Neck, which he wrote, directed and acted in. The movie premiered during 2018 Tribeca Film Festival.

The Office Revival:

Over the years, there have been countless rumors about the revival of The Office. The fans want it, network agrees to it, why isn’t the show already in production, one may wonder. The real challenge here is to bring back the cast together as it will be especially difficult to lure back stars like Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling and Ed Helms.

Likewise, Paul has also gone on to write and appear in many acclaimed shows. However, it is safe to say that the naive HR rep will be on the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin Paper Co. if the cameras start rolling.
