The world got to know TMZ senior producer, Van Lathan, after heĀ confronted Kanye West over slavery comments.

On May 1, 2018, the rapper visited TMZ’s headquarters and sat in an interview with Charles Latibeaudiere and Harvey Levin. 

While addressing his endorsement of Donald Trump, he said that 400 years of slavery was “a choice” made by African-Americans. 

Later, after talking about the idea of being mentally imprisoned, he asked the people in the newsroom if they felt he was thinking free.

Right at the time, Van Lathan stood up and backfired at West stating that he believes what the rapper was doing was “the absence of thought.” 

Lathan released an emergency episode of his The Red Pill Podcast, where he mentioned that Kanye is “someone I’ve lost all respect for.”

He became a hero & the words he spoke offending West was the mic drop heard round the social media world.
