More than three years after the fan-favorite biker drama, Sons of Anarchy, went off the air, FX is coming with its spin-off, Mayans MC. Now, here’s good news for fans of SOA. You will see old friends in the spin-off, which is set to premiere on September 4.

The Cast of Mayans MC Revealed!

The show will revolve around a Latino M.C. near the California/Mexico border, a few hundred miles from the SAMCRO. Creator, Kurt Sutter, told reporters on Television Critics’ Association summer press tour that flashbacks in the new motorcycle drama will allow him to feature characters from SOA.

Gemma Teller Morrow, played by Katey Sagal, will make a surprise appearance in the first episode. Mayans will focus on Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (played by JD Pardo), a prospect of the Latino biker club, and will also feature Edward James Olmos as his father.

Like any other spin-off from the original series, it will weave references to Jax Teller’s (played by Charlie Hunnam) world throughout the series. Besides, SOA ended with Jax’s death in 2014. It means his sons, Abel and Thomas, would be 10 and 6, respectively.

Sutter has hinted at possibly bringing them back into Mayans MC or exploring their stories in the future. Moreover, the biggest connection to SOA that viewers will see is Emilio Rivera reprising his role as the president of the Mayans MC Oakland Charter, Marcus Alvarez.

Likewise, Jacqueline Obradors, Antonio Jaramillo, Michael Irby, Danny Pino, Richard Cabral, Clayton Cardenas and Sarah Bolger are among the cast. Sutter also says that he hasn’t given up on a long-talked-about prequel about Jax’s late father, John Teller.

Co-creator Elgin James, who grew up in a world of gangs and violence, said the show is a chance to tell Latino stories to people worldwide. Furthermore, Elgin added that many people working in front of and behind the camera grew up enduring poverty and violence. 

With the show officially premiering on September 4 at 10 p.m. ET, the network is releasing the pilot on September 1 on the FX+ streaming service.
