In the early 21st century, when the world had started losing some of the greatest rock musicians, Radiohead came out as something more than a rock band. The English band emerged as a touchstone for everything that was fearless and adventurous in rock, inheriting the throne from David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Nirvana. And one of the pupils of the University of Exeter, Thom Yorke was leading the cavalry into the rock and roll world with his falsetto vocal and six string.

He was born on October 7, 1968, in Northamptonshire and his family lived in Scotland before moving to Oxfordshire, England. He formed Radiohead with his schoolmates in 1985 and the band signed a record deal with EMI in 1991. They released their first single, Creep, in 1992. The debut single skyrocketed his fame and the debut album, Pablo Honey, released in 1993 propelled the band to global stardom. Till date, Radiohead have released 9 studio albums, including their latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, in 2016.

Surprising Facts about “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen you never knew!

In 2006, when Yorke released his first solo album, The Eraser, he said,

“I’ve been in the band since we left school and never dared do anything on my own … It was like, ‘Man, I’ve got to find out what it feels like,’ you know?”

The success of his first album was followed by his 2014 album, Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes. He most recently released his first feature film soundtrack, Suspiria, composed for the 2018 horror film of the same name in October 2018. Recently, while appearing on BBC Radio 1’s The Chillest Show, he talked about his work on the soundtrack. When DJ Phil Taggart asked him if he had got anything easier for having Jonny Greenwood as his bandmate, who has experienced 8 film scores, he said,

“If I was honest with myself, I was a little bit jealous but felt that I couldn’t so I never tried. Jonny’s just so far ahead – he understands orchestration works, he can read music, he’s studied it all. I mean, he sits there studying scores. For Paul Thomas Anderson’s last film, he went away and read all the scores from the period of the composers of the time. That is not gonna happen with me cos I can’t read music.”

As of 2018, the Radiohead frontman has an estimated net worth of $45 million.
