Matthew Lyons is a Washington, DC-based attorney, who is currently a branch chief at Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He is recognized as the husband of chef Carla Hall from The Chew.

Matthew was born in July 1976. He studied Associate of Arts in Communication and Media Studies at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. He then went to Western Michigan University and completed Bachelor of Arts in 1991, majoring in English Language and Literature.
In 1997, he earned his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School. Lyons was a professional staff of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1992 to 1995 and was a member of the committee of energy & commerce there.
From 1995 to 1997, Lyons was a public policy analyst at Clark & Weinstock. He became legislative director of the U.S. House of Representative from May 1998 to September 2000 and served as the director of government relations at non-profit making organization, Biotechnology Innovation Organization, from 2000 to 2003.
Lyons was a senior manager at a pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, for less than a year between 2003 and 2004. He was a legislative analyst at FDA from May 2005 to June 2006 and held the position of senior legislative analyst for oversight from July 2006 to September 2008.
He served as Washington, D.C. branch chief at FDA from September 2008 to November 2014 and went on to serve as a Director of Stakeholder Relations for about nine months. Since July 2015, he has once again been serving as the branch chief.
