Welker graduated in 1994 from the German town Friends School and it was followed by a Bachelors in Arts with a major in History from Harvard College in 1998. At first, she worked at ABC affiliates WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island and later worked at KRCR-TV in Redding/Chico, California.
