Keith Colburn (born March 10, 1963) is an American fisherman and reality TV star, who is known for appearing in Discovery’s 'Deadliest Catch.'
He is captain of the Seattle-based F/V Wizard, part of the crab-fishing fleet featured on the show.
A 22 years old Lake Tahoe ski bum, Keith along with his lifelong friend, Kurt Frankenberg, landed in Kodiak, Alaska while searching for a change in 1985.
At that time, with no experience, a tent and just $5, he was determined to try something new and exciting.
He started as a true greenhorn on Alaska Trader, a 135-foot crabber/tender.
While looking for adventure in Alaska’s water, he ended up taking a position of the deckhand on the Wizard.
He earned his U.S. Coast Guard license in 1990 and moved from the deck to the pilothouse.
Two years afterward, he earned his captain license and remained there as the skipper.
He purchased the crabber, Sirene in 2002 but continued to operate the F/V Wizard.
In 2004, he sold the fishing rights for the Sirene in a government-run fleet reduction program, Federal Buy Back.
A year later, after the program led to the reduction of crabbing fleet from 250 to 80 crabbers, Keith purchased the Wizard to secure his stake in the industry.
Today, he continues to work as a captain and owner of one of the Bering Sea’s premier crab fishing vessels.
He had a rough season during the season 12 of Deadliest Catch, as he was struggling with stress amidst the pain of separating with his wife of 25 years.
Considering that Sig Hansen’s heart attack onboard was a wake-up call for all captains, he started taking care of himself.
He was married to Florence Colburn and has two children, a son, Caelan and a daughter, Sienna with her.
As of now, he is leading a healthy life and is set to appear in season 14 of ‘Deadliest Catch’ in the spring of 2018.
Before landing in Alaska with his friend, he used to work as a chef in French restaurants.
Throughout the years, he has accumulated a net worth of $1.5 million.
