Jerry Ferrara, renowned for his portrayal of Turtle in HBO hit series Entourage, made the headlines in 2010 when he lost 40 pounds from his 200-pound body. He further surprised his fans in 2011 when he debuted with a 55-pound frame.

The actor’s transformation raised several questions, whether his transformation was for any movie project, or it was just for the benefit of his health. Clearing the confusion the actor said in an interview “I didn’t get in shape because of anything having to do with the public. Maybe there was a little bit of strategy behind it for transitioning outside of ‘Entourage’ but I can promise you, the main goal was to just get healthy”.

Jerry opted to hit the gym and maintain a balanced diet after the doctor’s warned him about the hazardous effects that his weight could bring in the future. “It might have been a scare tactic, but it was simply put, and I listened,” the actor said referring to the doctor’s warnings.

Jerry’s road to losing weight began after one of his friend’s wife, a nutritionist by profession, suggested a simple diet that would help him. “I followed it for three days, then had a meltdown and almost gave up. I started again and then had a 20-day streak. Then I gave up again. I got another 20 days and this time it stuck” the actor said about the difficulties he faced.

Besides the diet regime, the actor also underwent some exercises which helped in his pursuit of reducing his weight. He would play basketball one night a week, box one day a week and carry on some weight training on his own. In addition to that, he would also run few miles with his fiancé Breanne Racano

After 10 months of hard work and sacrifice, the actor finally got his reward when he lost 40 pounds. The 5 feet 7 inches tall actor’s weight loss not only benefited his health but it also helped him excel in his career fronts.

Speaking about the impact of his weight loss in his career, the actor said “I was cast as Gabrielle Union’s love interest in Think Like a Man Too. I had to prove to an audience I could actually get her. That was not going to happen before”.
