Gabriel was born on July 15, 1976, in San Diego, California. He is the youngest of six children of Esther P. Mendez and Jesus Iglesias. He was raised solely by his mother. 

He first started his career working in a cell phone company in Los Angeles. Later in 1997, he started off as a full-time comedian. Slowly yet steadily, he started gaining public attention and his way of saying “Oh I’m not fat, I’m fluffy” started becoming more popular.

Gabriel Iglesias has been in a relationship with actress and producer, Claudia Valdez. The two first caught media attention after they appeared together in Make a Wish event in 2008.
