Britt McHenry was born on May 28, 1986, in Mount Holly Township, New Jersey, as Brittany May McHenry. She grew up in Satellite Beach, Florida, where she went to Satellite High School. While she was in the high school, she played as a midfielder for a soccer team. She graduated in 2004 and later joined Stetson University. There she played for the Hatters soccer team for the 2004 season as a midfielder.
She graduated magna cum laude (a Latin honor for academic degree) from the university in 2007. She then attended Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, from where she started her journalism career covering the stories in Chicago, Illinois.

After graduating from the journalism school, she started working as a sports reporter and fill-in anchor for Washington-based ABC affiliate, WJLA-TV, and ABC’s sister station, News Channel 8. She briefly worked as a dugout reporter for Fox Sports San Diego and joined ABC 7 after two weeks.
While working for ESPN, she served as a correspondent for several shows like SportsCenter, NFL Live, Outside the Lines, and Baseball Tonight. She worked as a Washington, D.C.-based bureau reporter for ESPN until she was laid off by the network on April 27, 2017, with the NFL Draft being her final assignment.
