It has been almost 20 years since the first episode of NBC’s dramedy series, Freaks and Geeks graced the small screen. Although the cult classic aired for only one season, it is still one of the best shows ever made. Even though 18 episodes were shot, the network wrapped up the show after releasing only 12 episodes.

Later on, other 3 episodes were released in July 2000 due to frequent requests from fans and remaining 3 episodes were released on Fox Family Channel.

The 80s based comedy and amazing portrayals of actors like Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, James Franco and Linda Cardellini among others led to the success of the series. In addition to that, the show also became a big platform for the actors to showcase their flairs, and went on to get big roles later on in their career.

James Franco is inarguably one of the best actors who came out of the teen comedy drama. After his portrayal of Daniel Desario in the show, he had tons of projects laying around to work on. Just after a year, he took home his first Golden Globe Award for portraying the titular role in the 2001 biopic, James Dean.

He later went on to land some iconic roles in movies like Spiderman trilogy, Eat Pray Love, Milk, Spring Breakers, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and many more. In 2010, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 127 Hours. In 2014, he and his co-star from Freaks and Geeks, Seth Rogen, starred in a controversial movie, The Interview, where they lay a plot to assassinate the evil North Korean leader, Kim Jong-Un. Currently, Franco is an executive producer and star of HBO drama, The Deuce.

#7. Linda Cardellini

Linda Cardellini played Lindsay Weir, a former honor student who left math club to hang out with a bunch of crackpots. Her work as one of the fan-favorite characters in the show was followed by her works in the live-action comedy film series, Scooby-Doo, and her role as Samantha Taggart in hit medical drama, ER.

She also appeared in many movies like Daddy’s Home, Kill the Irishman, The Founder, and is best known for playing Laura Barton, Hawkeye’s wife in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

After his role as Neal Schweiger, Sam hasn’t seen much of the spotlight in recent years. Self-proclaimed ladies’ man, he is still struggling to keep up with the fame that he achieved from the show. Fans haven’t seen much of Sam’s acting except for a few cameos in How I Met Your Mother, NCIS, That 70’s Show, Modern Family, and other TV series.

He also starred in Quentin Tarantino’s critically acclaimed movie, Inglourious Basterds, alongside Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender. Nowadays, he is starring in YouTube Red’s comedy web series, I’m Poppy, with YouTuber, Poppy.

#5. Seth Rogen

Seth’s portrayal of Ken Miller in Freaks and Geeks is one of the best works he has ever landed in his acting career. Following the show, he collaborated with Judd Apatow as the co-writer of the short-lived sitcom, Undeclared, in 2001. Since then, he has been focusing on writing rather than acting. He has worked as an actor only in a handful of movies like Green Hornet, 40-Year old Virgin, Neighbours, Knocked Up and others. He is currently voicing as the warthog, Pumba in an upcoming live-action adaptation of The Lion King.

Like Sam Levine, work hasn’t been steady for John Francis Daley as well. Daley, who played Lindsay’s younger brother, Sam Weir, is yet to get a big role in Hollywood. Nowadays, he has been busy writing screenplays and directing movies. After Freaks and Geeks, he appeared in different TV shows, including Bones, Kitchen Confidential, The Geena Davis Show and a few others. Recently in 2017, he wrote a screenplay for Marvel’s hit, Spider-Man Homecoming, which is one of his successful works in his career.

Jason Segel’s work in Freaks and Geeks and How I Met Your Mother proved that he fits right on the small screen. After Freaks and Geeks got canceled, he once again worked with his old producer, Judd Apatow in Undeclared. Jason did work on some movies, but he is still best known for portraying love-obsessed Nick Andopolis and Guffy lawyer Marshall Eriksen.

The actor, who played Bill Haverchuck, a coke-bottle glasses-wearing nerd, in Freaks and Geeks, went on to appear on different TV series like New Girls, Parks and Recreation, Party Down and several more. After Freaks and Geeks, Martin’s most recognizable role came on HBO sitcom Silicon Valley. Nowadays, he is working in the movie, Honey Boy, alongside Lucas Hedge.

Unlike other cast, Freaks and Geeks was just a beginning for Busy Philipps. After introducing her flairs landing the role of the mean girl, Kim Kelly, in the show, she gained broader exposure playing Audrey Liddell in Dawson’s Creek. In 2009, she secured a role alongside Friends alum Courteney Cox in Cougar Town. However, she isn’t much active in recent years.
