Wilma Rudolph was the first US athlete to win triple Olympic gold in a single competition in 1960

Wilma Rudolph made history after she bagged gold medals in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter relay at 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. With the triumph, she became the first US track and field athlete to win three Olympic gold in a single competition. After the success in 1960 Summer Olympics, she earned the household name as the fastest woman in history.
