Wilma Rudolph was born in St. Bethlehem, Tennessee on June 23, 1940 as prematurely born child. Her physical condition was so severe, she could only walk with the aid of supportive shoes and brace. Working hard and training intensely, Rudolph somehow made it to the 1956 Summer Olympics at the age of 16. She bagged a bronze medal in the 400-meter relay in the competition.
