Ajit Pai is a Havard University product, he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in 1994. He followed that with a Juris Doctor degree in 1997 from the University of Chicago Law School. He was appointed the editor of the University of Chicago Law Review, during his university days.
Shortly after his law school, he got to work for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. In 1998, Pai moved to Washington DC as the Telecommunication Task Force’s trial attorney at the US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. Pai rejoined the justice department in 2004, but this time as a Senior Counsel at the Office of Legal Policy. In February 2005 he was appointed the Cheif Counsel at the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Property Rights. He has enjoyed many reputed posts since then in the Federal Communications Committee. His work mainly surrounds the transactional and regulatory matters of cable, wireless, internet, wireline and media.
The then president, Barack Obama nominated Ajit as the candidate for the position of Republic Party. He was sworn for the post on 14th May 2012. After the termination of his four years service on 30th June 2016, Pai was further promoted as the Chairman of the Federal Communications Committee by the new president, Donald Trump in January 2017.
