Amy Schumer was born as Amy Beth Schumer on June 1, 1981, in Manhattan, New York. One of three children to baby furniture owners Sandra and Gordon Schumer, she had a really wealthy upbringing in early years. However, the scenario changed when her parents’ company bankruptcy dissolved their marriage. Gordon died of multiple sclerosis shortly thereafter leaving Amy and her siblings in deep grief.
Such a swift change of her family status changed her approach to life. Relocating to Long Island, she attended South Side High School, where she was voted ‘Teacher’s Worst Nightmare’ and ‘Class Clown’ and graduated in 1999. Later moving to Baltimore, Maryland, she attended Towson University and graduated majoring in theater in 2003. Afterward, she returned to New York and studied at William Esper Studio for two years.
Prior to making her stage debut playing breast cancer victim in off-Broadway Keeping Abreast, she worked as a waitress and a bartender. She began performing stand-up comedy in 2004 through Gotham Comedy Club. She joined Comedy Central in 2008 as a co-star of reality show Reality Bites Back and has since made herself recognizable through sketch comedy Inside Amy Schumer. She has earned a Peabody Award and five Primetime Emmy Awards nominations.
US Senator Chuck Schumer is her cousin. Currently, single Amy dated comedian and actor Anthony Jeselnik from 2009 till 2011. Prior to that, she was in relationship with wrestler Nick Nemeth and furniture designer Ben Hanisch.
