After completing their last tour in 2015, Mötley Crüe has decided to retire from their glorious three decades long music career. Nikki Sixx, the band’s bassist, confirmed it was their final tour, however, they might release new songs in future if everything goes well. The American heavy metal band were active from 1981 to 2015 and have sold over 100 million records worldwide, making them one of the best metal bands of all time.

After three years of their supposed retirement, we have prepared five facts you might not know about these veterans of the music industry.

Once together, Always together

It’s rare for a successful band to retain its original members until the end. Mötley Crüe used the same lineup for more than three decades except for one album when lead singer Vince Neil was replaced by John Corabi. The band’s lineup consisted of lead singer, Vince Neil, bassist, Nikki Sixx, guitarist, Mick Mars, and drummer, Tommy Lee. This same line up was used in their farewell tour as well.

This band’s journey is a living example of “rags to riches”. They had been living in their Sunset Strip apartment which had a major cockroach problem. They couldn’t afford pesticides, so they would kill the roaches with a lighter and hairspray and sometimes leave the oven on max temperature to make sure they killed the ones that were inside. They even had to use socks and magazines in place of toilet paper at their low point.

Hello Europe!

Mötley Crüe has a bad history in Europe. Bored during a European tour,  Lee and Sixx would break beer bottles on each other’s heads and sometimes swallowed small light bulbs whole. Once in Germany, they threw two beds out of their hotel room window which landed on a couple of Mercedes. Not only that, they set a fire at a famous hotel in Switzerland and broke elevator windows. However, they weren’t the only ones causing chaos in Europe as fans in London threw animal bones, sausages and even darts at the band during a concert.

It’s no secret that Heavy metal and psychedelics go hand in hand. But these guys were a lot more wild than other artists. Many of their hit songs have been written while the members were high and out of their minds. Neil once got into a bar fight with a drag queen, who sold him baby powder by saying it was cocaine. The song Kickstart My Heart was inspired when Nikki Sixx almost died of a Heroin overdose.

They were not good with other artists

With their drug history and rowdy behaviors, Mötley Crüe had already shown they were wild. While on the tour with KISS they behaved so wildly that Gene Simmons had them kicked out of the show. When touring with Eddie Van Halen and AC/DC, Sixx attacked Eddie and bit him on his stomach.
