US State Department warns Americans visiting Europe of potential terror attacks

The United States of America Department of State has issued an alert for Americans traveling to Europe during this holiday season. The department has warned citizens to be on alert for potential terror attacks after devastating attacks on cities such as Nice, Berlin, London and Barcelona. 

State Department: Heightened risk of attacks

The State Department has issued an alert for American citizens preparing to spend their holidays in European countries – “U.S. citizens should always be alert to the possibility that terrorist sympathizers or self-radicalized extremists may conduct attacks with little or no warning.”

Terrorism concerns have heightened after a series of deadly attacks in Europe in 2017. There have been 11 terrorist attacks in Europe this year alone.

January 1, 2017 – 39 people were gunned down at a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey

March 18, 2017 – A terrorist unsuccessfully attempted to seize a soldier’s gun at Orly Airport in France

March 22, 2017 – 6 people died after a terrorist ran over them with a car on the Westminster Bridge in London 

April 3, 2017 – A suicide bomber detonated on the St. Petersburg, Metro in Russia, killing 16

April 7, 2017 – 5 people died after a hijacked truck was driven into a shopping street in Stockholm, Sweden

April 20, 2017 – 4 people lost their lives at the hands of an ISIS sympathizers in Paris

May 22, 2017 – 22 people, including children, died after a bombing at the Manchester arena in Manchester

June 3, 2017 – A van ran over pedestrians on the London Bridge, killing 8

June 6, 2017 – An ISIL supporter attacked an officer in Paris

June 20, 2017 – A terrorist detonated a bomb at the Brussels Central Station in Belgium

August 9,2017 – A car ran over a dozen soldiers in Levallois-Perret, Hauts-de-Seine, France

August 17, 2017 – A van ran over pedestrians in Barcelona, killing 15

September 15, 2017 – A bomb explosion injured 30 people in London
