Sia is an Australian singer songwriter and record producer who is perhaps best known for her breakthrough single, Chandelier. Her sixth album, 1000 Forms of Fear, debuted atop the Billboard 200 in the United States in 2014.
Sia was born as Sia Kate Isobelle Furler on December 18, 1975, in Adelaide, South Australia, to Phil Colson and Leone Furler. She is the niece of actor Kevin Colson and Men at Work singer Colin Hay. Sia got her start in music in the 1990s as a member of an acid jazz band called Crisp.
After Crisp disbanded in 1997, Sia released her debut solo album, OnlySee. She released two more albums, Healing is Difficult, and Colour the Small One, before moving to New York City in 2005. She began touring in the States and released the albums Some People Have Real Problems in 2008 and We Are Born in 2010.
In her hiatus, Sia focused on writing songs for other artists such as David Guetta, Rihanna, and Flo Rida. In 2014, her single, Chandelier, made her popular with the mainstream audience and also began her association with teen dance prodigy, Maddie Ziegler, who starred in the music video. The single was nominated for Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2015 Grammy Awards. Sia has received eight Grammy nominations so far.
Cheap Thrills from her seventh album, This is Acting, became her first Billboard Hot 100 number one single.
Sia was previously married to filmmaker Erik Anders Lang from 2014 to 2016. She was in a relationship with American singer JD Samson for three years. They separated in 2011.
