23.5 Degree host Sam Champion's tenure at The Weather Channel ended in 2016

On joining the Atlanta, Georgia-based news channel, Champion got his own morning show America’s Morning Headquarters. His new show with the channel debuted on 17th March 2014. The experienced weather forecaster also served as the Managing Editor and the host of his night time show 23.5 Degree with Sam Champion

Champion had high hopes from his switch to The Weather Channel from ABC. He had dreamt of an increased salary, power and prestige but none of that became reality as he saw his position with the channel in jeopardy by late 2016. After spending three years with the channel and headlining two shows Champion signed off with the Georgia-based news channel in 2016.

Speaking about Champion’s departure an insider to the Channel said “Sam Champion has decided to leave The Weather Channel at the end of this year (2016) to pursue new challenges. We are grateful for his contributions and his leadership in his time with the network, as managing editor and both anchor and creator of AMHQ and the pioneering 23.5 Degree.”

Champion is yet to reveal what his next career step would be. There were several rumours which hinted towards a possible return to ABC. Cancelling Champion’s possible return to ABC an insider to said: “We love Sam and he’ll always be part of the ABC family, but we have got the best weather team in the business already in place.” 

Although the weather forecasting veteran’s future still remains in doubt, there is no denying the fact that he still is one of the prominent names in the American media industry. In his career spanning over 29 years, the media personality has amassed an estimated net worth of 10 million dollars, previously earning a whopping annual salary of around 1.5 million dollars.
