Peter Nelson is an American master treehouse builder and an author. He is best recognized for his appearance as a host of Animal Planet TV show, Treehouse Masters since 2013.

Pete was born on June 4, 1962, in Ridgewood, NJ. He first got interested in treehouses from the very young age. His father has a lot to do for his inclination towards the treehouse. His father built him an adventurous tree fort behind the garage of their home, when he was just 5 years old.

He was so captivated by the structure that he started having fantasies about the designs of carpentry and treehouses when he reached to his college days.

In 1987, Pete’s dream of a career in treehouse came true when he built his first adult treehouse, in the backyard in Colorado. David Stiles’ book, How To Build Treehouse, Huts and Forts revived Pete’s childhood dream.

Post-graduation, he moved to Washington State to follow a unique career path. As a startup, he started working in the construction of the regular ground house. Following that, he went on to build innovative and inspiring treehouses.

He first published his book Treehouses: The Art and Craft of Living Out on a Limb in 1994. Following that, he has written five more books on the very topic. In 1997, he co-founded the Treehouse Workshop. Further, in 2006, he opened a retreat center, Treehouse Point, bed and breakfast composed of solely treehouses. The main motive of the retreat center was to celebrate the magnificence of the Pacific Northwest.

Besides, he is the owner of Nelson Treehouse and Supply located out of Fall City, Washington. The company was built in 2011 and so far has built hundreds of treehouses around the world.

In 2012, he t took his interest and hobby to the next level by sharing the world through the small screen. He embarked on a new adventures, Treehouse Masters. The show first aired on May 31, 2013.

The show documents Pete and his team across the country. The show has earned approximate 1.3 million viewers per episode. As of 2018, the show is running the successful season 10 which aired on January 5, 2018, and is reported to end on September 22, 2018.

Further, in 2016, he collaborated with country music star, Zac Brown in order to build a 1300 sq. foot treehouse at Brown’s Camp Southern Ground, a non-profit designed to serve children with neurodevelopmental disorders and those from military families struggling with PTSD.  

Throughout his career, he has built several magnificent treehouses. He has designed the Red Panda House at San Francisco Zoo. During his career span of decades, he has banked a huge amount of net worth. So far, his salary per episode has been under the radar, however, as of 2018, he has estimated amount of $3 million.

Pete is happily married to his high school sweetheart, Judy. Besides the three decades of blissful married life, they also share three adult children, twins son, Henry and Charlie and a daughter, Emily. His daughter, Emily is married to Patrick. They tied their knot on September 18, 2016, at Cleveland Botanical Garden.

Their kids are also into the family business. Their son, Henry who often travels with the crew on builds is a skilled carpenter. Henry’s brother, Charlie builds boats and guitars and is tending to our Woodinville property as it crystallizes into Treehouse Resort and Spa.

Their daughter, Emily, is at the helm of the treehouse HQ. Additionally, she has also founded an online store, Be in a Tree, where one can purchase their treehouse plans, lifestyle goods, and the same heavy-duty hardware which Pete uses in his builds worldwide. Along with the Nelson family, Emily’s husband is also into the business and works as the lead carpenter of the construction team.

In 2006, Nelson and his wife, Judy, started an overnight treehouse retreat center, Treehouse Point, with a vision to bring back people close to nature.

In 2011, he started Nelson Treehouse and Supply, a treehouse design, construction and supply business.

His sons, Henry and Charlie, are good carpenters and builders. His daughter, Emily, founded and runs their online store, Be in a Tree.

Even their son-in-law, Patrick, is a good carpenter and a part of their construction team.

In 2013, Animal Planet started a show, Treehouse Masters, which shows Nelson and his team building treehouses all over the United States.

Treehouse Masters’ has now completed its ten seasons successfully with an average of 1.3 million viewers per episode. 

Currently, Nelson is engaged in his new project, Treehouse Resort and Spa, a new destination of relaxing with nature which is expected to open by 2020.
