Two months after leaving America Live and starting her new show Kelly File, in December 2013 she landed in controversy when she reacted to the statements about Santa Claus’s race saying that, “For all the kids watching at home, Santa just us white, but this person is just bringing that maybe we should also have a black Santa. But Santa is what he is, and just so you know, we’re just debating this because someone wrote about it.”
She also later went on to say Jesus was also a white man. Her comments received large criticism and later claimed that the race of Jesus is “far from settled”.
Apart from her journalism career, another factor that really pushed Kelly to the peak of popularity was her feud with current US President Donald Trump. Both of them would never miss an opportunity to criticize one another. Their tussle began in August 2015 when Kelly questioned Trump, “You ‘ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs slobs, and disgusting animals”.
Later in response to the question, Trump said in an ABC news interview, “There was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever”. Their feud gathered pace following Trump’s comments and also became the talk of the town in late 2015. After the debate, Trump even infamously retaliated addressing Kelly “crazy”, “overrated”, “angry” and “bimbo” as well. The issue has somewhat died now as both seem to be focusing more on their respective career.
In her book entitled Settle For More, she wrote about the incident, “I was not the only journalist to whom Trump offered gifts clearly meant to shape coverage. Many reporters have told me Trump worked hard to offer then something fabulous – from hotel rooms to rides on his 757.”
Though the-then presidential hopeful mistreated her, Fox News didn’t come to her support. Instead, network’s CEO, Roger Ailes, to whom Fox anchor, Gretchen Carlson filed a lawsuit for sexual harassment was of the close friends to him. Both 70-something moguls were accused of sexual harassment by several women.
For her sharp comments for anything, she might have been in controversies quite often but nonetheless she was rated as one of the 100 most influential people in 2014 by Times magazine.
Despite anything, she continued surpassing several other top American journalist and earned high appreciation from the young generation.Throughout her time with the Fox News she not only cemented her place as one of the best in the industry but also established herself as one of the wealthy professionals accumulating a net worth of around $15 million.
