John Hamm is revealing the tragedy he has been facing after his parents’ demise.

The award-winning actor said in November issue of Elle, “My dad, was twice widowed. He was divorced from my mom when she died, but even so, there’s a deep sense of tragedy in that. I never had the opportunity to, as an adult, sit down and talk to him about that. It’s a real loss.”

When Hamm was just 10, his mother lost her life to colon cancer and father’s death followed a decade later. meanwhile, Hamm, 20, advised own-self thinking struggle as the past of journey and he too needs to make it.

Now 45, Hamm said, “The best thing you could say is: ‘Appreciate it. the struggle is a part of the journey. That’s what I have learned in my forties: This too shall pass.”

The actor, who grew up in St. Louis headed to Los Angeles following college graduation with $150 and a dream of being a part of Hollywood. While he has to wait till mid-thirties for his major break in ‘Mad Men’, he doesn’t regret those early years of paying his dues.

The ‘Keeping Up with The Joneses’ star, who admitted himself into a month treatment facility for alcohol addiction back in the February 2015, isn’t afraid of facing his flaws.

“It has all these connotations, but it’s just an extended period of talking about yourself”, he recently opened about his experience to The Journal. “People go for all sorts of reasons, not all of which a chemically related. But there’s something to be said for pulling yourself out of the grind for a period of time and concentrating on re-calibrating the system. And it works. It’s great”, he added.

Jon says he is doing Ok, as he feels “lucky enough” to have other parental figures in his life.

Hamm, who grew up deprived of family’s love, admitted to Elle magazine, “I was quasi-adopted by my friends’ families. And even today I get e-mails or cards from this woman who, for lack of a better word, were my mom. We talk about what it means to be family, mostly it’s about showing up. And being aware enough to check in and say, ‘How are you doing?’ I’ve been incredibly lucky to have these people in my life.”

Although the actor opened up about the time he lost his virginity, i.e. 19 years age, calling it “awkward”, he didn’t talk about his recent split from his love life or longtime girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt.

When asked about what he wants to tell to the next woman coming in his life, Hamm said, “Oh God. I don’t know, I don’t think I’m ready to answer that yet.”
