LeBron James left the basketball community in frenzy after announcing his departure from Cleveland Cavaliers to join Los Angeles Lakers on July 1. His arrival at Staples Center has seen a record number of jersey sales, even from the fans at Cleveland, where the sales are the fourth highest.

One of Cleveland Cavaliers’ most devastating loss in history came against the Boston Celtics in the 2010 playoffs. After the defeat, the Cavs were eliminated from the postseason and on July 1, 2010, James became a free agent. In an ESPN special titled The Decision, James announced that he was leaving the Cavaliers to join Miami Heat. The special was watched by approximately 9.95 million viewers and became the third most-watched programme on cable in 2010.

Miami’s Number Six

James currently wears no. 23, the same number that Michael Jordan wore in Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards. But during his days with Miami Heat, James wore jersey no. 6, a number which apparently means a lot to him. His second favorite player growing up was Julius Erving, who wore no. 6, his first child was born on October 6 and his second child was born in June. Interestingly enough, six was also his Olympic number.

James may be a right-handed shooter in the court, but off the courts, he’s a leftie. In an NBA conference, he said that the reason he uses his right hand is that he grew up watching players like Michael Jordan and Penny Hardaway- who were both right-handed.

LeBron James made his entry to professional basketball with a bang. During his rookie season in 2003, he was picked by his home team Cleveland Cavaliers as the first overall draft pick. He was only 18 at that time which made him the youngest player to do so.

By the end of the season, he was named NBA’s Rookie of the Year. The rest as we know is history. He would eventually become NBA MVP 4 times and NBA Finals MVP 3 times, rightfully earning the name of “King” James.
