Fox Sports gem Pam Oliver inspired a book

Veteran sports journalist Pam Oliver was the inspiration behind author Sonja Lewis's 2011 novel, The Barrenness. The book follows 39-year-old Lil, who finds herself in a series of obstacles in her quest to have a child.

Oliver doesn't have her own children but is a mother to her husband's three children. She tied the knot with Alvin Whitney in 1990 when she was in her late 30s. She failed to get pregnant and was later diagnosed with uterine fibroids.

Speaking to Black Enterprise in 2011 about her condition, Oliver said, “Mine was a particularly terrible case. By my late 30s/early 40s, my thought was, ‘I don’t think it’s going to be.’ It would have been a medical miracle if I had been able to get pregnant.”

Oliver revealed that she chose not to get surgeries or fertility treatments and instead embraced her barrenness. The Fox Sports favorite explained that even though she can't have children, she's happy and satisfied with her life.

She is a testament for those who think women are unfulfilled until they procreate.
