It is difficult to imagine the genius behind the all-electric cars, Elon Musk riding anything that is gasoline powered.
However, the inspiration for such fast cars did not come from nowhere.
Here are the non-Tesla cars that Elon Musk has ever owned.
1978 BMW 320i
This is thefirst car that Elon Musk ever bought. He bought it for $1400 in 1994.
He had the car for two years until one of the wheels fell off when a Zip2 intern was driving it.
1967 E-Type Jaguar
Musk, who dreamed about this convertible as a teenager, bought it after he got the bonus check of $40,000 from Zip2.
The car, however, was abad purchase. It actually broke down on his way back from the dealer.
McLaren F1
After he sold PayPal, Musk bought a McLaren F1 and put 11,000 miles on it while he was using it as a daily driver.
However, in 2000, he hit an embankment and the car went flying and suffered extensive body damages.
Lotus Esprit
He brought theJames Bond’s carin 2013 for $997,000 with the intention of making it a submarine.
He said that he was sadto learn that the car couldn’t transform like it did in the movie, The Spy Who Loved Me.
Audi Q7
The bad seating design of Audi Q7 inspired Musk to create Falcon doors in the Tesla Model X.
He said, “The Audi Q7 is particularly horrendous. Even in the best case scenario, you need to be dwarf mountain climber to get into the back seat.”
Porsche 911
When Forbes visited Musk’s house in 2012, they spotteda Porsche 911. It is unclear when or how Elon bought this car.
The much loved iconic car is probably for another design inspiration for Tesla’s upcoming vehicles.
Hamann BMW M5
Musk’s love for sports car can be evident as he had another sports car in his garage.
He told he owned an M5 in a Vanity Fair interview in 2007.
