It wasn’t just her career or beauty, Elizabeth Taylor’s marriages were also always the talk of the town. She was married eight times. She made the headlines for all the wrong reasons when she was with actor Eddie Fisher. Taylor was deemed a homewrecker for breaking up Fisher’s marriage to actress Debbie Reynolds. The couple tied the knot on 12th May 1959.
Speaking about her marriage with Fisher, the actress stated that she married him only because of grief after the demise of her third husband, Mike Todd. Taylor and Fisher enjoyed each other’s company for five years before separating in 1964.
Taylor’s fifth marriage, which was dubbed as the ‘marriage of the century’, was with frequent co-star Richard Burton. Their romance kicked off after they met while shooting Cleopatra in 1963. They married in 1964 and remained together for a decade. They divorced in 1974.
Their relationship was so famous that they have a diamond named after them, The Taylor Burton Diamond. Their obsession for each other led to their reconciliation in 1975. The couple re-married again the same year and divorced for the second time in 1976.
Taylor gave birth to two sons while she was married to her second husband, Michael Wilding. With Mike Todd, she had a daughter named Elizabeth “Liza” Frances Todd, born in 1957. Liza was later adopted by Burton. Taylor and Burton also adopted a daughter named Maria Burton.
