Don Lemon makes false claims about Loretta Lynch recusing herself

By: Anthony Norman  |   |

CNN Tonight host Don Lemon made a false claim on Wednesday, March 1, that former Attorney General Loretta Lynch had recused herself from an investigation relating to Hillary Clinton’s private email. But he was quickly corrected by fellow CNN anchor Dana Bash.

Lemon said, “We have to remember, Loretta Lynch recused herself from any decision regarding Hillary Clinton because of that meeting of Hillary Clinton and Loretta Lynch, who was attorney general at the time, on the tarmac.”

This was in reference to requests for Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s recusal from an investigation into Russia’s influence in the 2016 presidential election.

After his remarks, fellow CNN anchor Dana Bash corrected Lemon saying Lynch did say that she “wouldn’t be involved in the decisions” however, she didn’t recuse herself from the federal investigation.

Lemon quickly clarified that he had misspoken and was actually referring to Lynch’s private meeting with Bill Clinton in 2016. “Yeah, I may have misspoken. I meant Bill Clinton on the tarmac,” said Lemon.
