The captain of the F/V Northwestern, Sig Hansen is a fourth generation fisherman, best known for appearing in ‘Deadliest Catch.’
The oldest of three sons, he has been operating the boat and appearing on the show along with his brothers, Edgar and Norman Hansen.
Married to June Hansen, he has adopted two daughters, Mandy Hansen and Nina Hansen.
As a professional fisherman and TV personality, he has accumulated a net worth of $3 million.

Outside Deadliest Catch
He had his first voice acting role in the 2011 animated film, Cars 2 and participated in the 14th season of ‘The Celebrity Apprentice.’
While appearing in ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,’ he showed an interest to take part in the dancing reality TV series, Dancing with the Stars.
In 2014, along with musician, Doc Severinsen, and singer, Bobby Vee, he was inducted into the ‘Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame.’
Heart Attack
In February 2016, Hansen suffered a massive heart attack, which was chronicled on ‘Deadliest Catch.’
Again in 2017, he was rushed to the hospital when he reportedly swallowed a nitro pill, complaining sharp pain in his chest.
At the hospital in Anchorage, he got 6 hours of medical tests. Fortunately, there was nothing to worry about.
Obsession with Cigarette
After experiencing a brutal heart attack and a rare escape in 2017, Sig seems conscious about his health.
He tried everything to stop smoking, including pills. He even tried getting hypnotized 3 times. “It didn’t work, but I am not giving up,” he stated.
Alleged by his own daughter
In 1987, Sig married Lisa Eckstrom, but they separated within a month. In 1990, she accused Sig of sexually assaulting their two years old daughter, Melissa.
Although the allegation was disproven after 20 years in 2010, he was again hit with a lawsuit from his estranged daughter.
He did not face criminal charges on claims after the court conducted a review of old case materials, The Seattle Times reported.

In 2010, he and Mark Sundeen released the book, ‘North by Northwestern: A Seafaring Family on Deadly Alaskan Waters.’
The book shows Hansen family’s character and their pride in Norwegian heritage, and the beginnings of the crabbing industry.
It also entered the New York Times’ and The Wall Street Journal’s best-seller list.
