Known for his performance on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, and Master of None, Aziz Ansari has relayed candid views about love, marriage, technology and normal life issues in his performances as a stand-up comedian, actor, and author.
Indian- American actor, comedian and now author, Aziz was born on February 23, 1983, to parents Shoukath Ansari and Fatima Ansari. Ansari deems himself an Atheist, although was brought up in a Muslim family. He attended South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics and later New York University.
Aziz Ansari’s film and television career
Ansari started to work on his stand-up specials while still at college. In 2006, he won the “Best Standup” Award at HBO’s Comedy Arts Festival. Ansari’s 2008 sketch comedy show “Human Giant”, which premiered on MTV, secured the attention of larger audience than ever before.
In 2013, Netflix first released Ansari’s Buried Alive. Buried Alive, Dangerously Delicious, Live at Madison Square Garden and Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening are some of the others that have received wide popularity. He has also performed on feature films, namely Funny People; I Love You, Man; Observe and Report and 30 Minutes or Less.
Aziz Ansari has won two Primetime Emmys for Master of None
In 2015, he co-created popular American comedy series: Master of None with Alan Yang which won the 2016 Critic’s Choice Awards.
For his performance on the show, he was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy in the 68th Emmys, making him the first Indian-American Actor to be nominated for a lead role.
On September 17, 2017, he won his second Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. He shared the award with actress, producer and screenwriter Lena Waithe. They were recognized for writing the episode, Thanksgiving. He has been nominated for two more Primetime Emmys this year.
